How I Met Your Mother (2005-2014) hits episode #200 tonight with its How Your Mother Met Me episode. It focuses on The Mother’s (Cristin Miliotti) romantic misadventures through all the years that Ted (Josh Radnor) has been looking for love. Exec producer Carter Bays calls this episode “a fun little Disneyland tour through the series from the perspective of someone outside the group”.
1 It opens with the title screen and recreates the intro with The Mother’s friends instead of the gang.
2 The episode begins in September 2005, the night of Lily and Marshall’s (Alyson Hannigan and Jason Segel) engagement (seen in the show’s first episode, in 2006 in SA). The Mother is celebrating her 21st at MacLaren’s (same name, different bar) the night that her boyfriend Max dies. So while Ted has been looking for the love of his life for the past nine seasons, The Mother has been trying to get over losing the love of her life. Some familiar faces pop up, like
3 Mitch (Adam Paul), the creator of The Naked Man strategy (season 4, 2010 in SA), who used it on The Mother the night that Ted went home with her yellow umbrella (which we saw in season 3 episode 12, 2009 in SA – same night, different episode).
4 And we’ll get loads more missed connections between The Mother and Ted, like the time he accidentally tried to teach her economics class in the season 5 premiere (2011 in SA) – the same class where she met Cindy (Rachel Bilson), who became Ted’s exgirlfriend and her roommate.
