Something old, something new, something borrowed and something with bullets – that’s what you bring to an Uzalo wedding.

Con-artist Zakhele (Mfana Jones Hlope) and gangster Lindiwe’s (Dawn Thandeka King) wedding date has been set for Wednesday 1 June, those pesky Xulu relatives have been paid off and meddling Hlengiwe (Gugu Gumede) has been sternly uninvited. But while Lindiwe the bride is in a flutter, everything is going wrong for the groom. His future son-inlaw Mxolisi (Naymaps Maphalala) and Mxolisi’s partner in crime Mastermind (Ntokozo Dlamini) have been watching Zakhele and his henchman Sbu (Sim- phiwe Majozi) closely since Monday 16 May and on Tuesday 24 May they beat him at his own game. That might sound like bachelor party fun and games, but when Zakhele discovers that he’s been outfoxed, there will be blood.
In Lindiwe’s first wedding, to Muzi Xulu (Mpumelelo Bhulose) years ago, she had no family (since they had disowned her for marrying a gangster) and no money. So this wedding is her dream come true. “She didn’t have the wedding that she would have wanted when she was young,” says Dawn. “Now Zakhele says to her, ‘Do whatever you want. I want you to have the wedding that you’ve always wanted. I’ll just pay for everything’. So she’s on cloud nine.”
Lindiwe doesn’t really get a say in her wedding dress, since Zakhele buys it for her. But unlike Lindiwe, Dawn did have a say behind the scenes. “The wardrobe department brought a dress to me and it wasn’t a dress that I would’ve worn,” she admits. “It had some organza and a flower situation on the bodice. So they took it away and they fixed it. I only got to see it on the day I was shooting to get dressed for the wedding. And it was beautiful. It came out exactly the way I would’ve wanted. It was more sparkly. I like sparkly things. They converted this
