Bongi and Doc (Dumisani Mbebe and Thembi Seete) hook up amid their daughter Zinzi’s (Ntando Duma) kidnapping drama and wake up on Wednesday 25 May awkwardly trying to hide their night of passion from Doc’s fiancée Lerato (Samkelo Ndlovu). “Zinzi is responsible for how Doc relates to Bongi,” says Dumisani. “She’s constantly trying to get them back together as she hates Lerato. Her actions are deliberate.” She didn’t exactly force them to jump into bed together, but the attraction’s already there and little does Lerato know that this is the beginning of the undoing of her relationship with Doc.

After Zinzi is rescued from her kidnapping drama on Thursday 26 May, Lerato focuses on getting on with her engagement to Doc and on Monday 30 May, she suggests that they elope. “But he never really commits to the idea,” says Dumisani. “He’s hesitant as Lerato has been constantly putting pressure on him and eloping is the last thing he’d want to do.” Lerato picks up on Bongi and Doc’s vibes since they hooked up and wants to ensure Doc’s married to her before he changes his mind. “She needs it to become official for security reasons,” Samkelo explains. “His ex is around and that makes her nervous because she can tell that the kidnapping brought them closer together.”

And it seems that Lerato’s instincts are right: Doc rushes out of their engagement party later on Monday 30 May after listening to a tearful Bongi on the radio talking about giving up her career. “To him, her giving up music means giving up on him, because he is the industry to her,” says Dumisani. To stop her from walking away, as he sees it, he proposes to her live on air while a shocked Lerato listens in. “She’s driving to the station when she hears the proposal on the radio and she’s devastated,” says Samkelo.

After being dumped on radio, you’d expect Lerato to go after the couple with all she’s got – and that’s exactly what Doc and Bongi are expecting on Tuesday 31 May. But to their surprise, Lerato isn’t in the mood for vengeance. “She doesn’t feel the need to hurt anyone at the moment, but that might change in the future,” hints Samkelo. Doc and Bongi are initially awkward after their romp, and Sakhile says that he wants the money first and will later release Zinzi. The police say that it’s best to rescue Zinzi before the drop, leaving Sakhile feeling trapped and he blames Zinzi for the drama. Niki’s freaked out when Puleng says that she knows Niki might be pregnant. Zinzi talks Sakhile out of killing her and is rescued, and Niki learns that she’s not pregnant.

Lerato thinks that she’s convinced Doc to elope, but when Bongi announces on radio that she’s quitting her singing dreams, Doc rushes to the station and proposes to Bongi live on air. Doc and Bongi settle into their new relationship, Puleng and Suffocate have intimacy problems, and Sakhile’s worming his way into the Dandala family. Bongi confronts Zinzi about staging her own kidnapping, Lerato gets a warning from Zolani, while Zinzi and Sakhile try to figure out a way to get around Bongi’s ultimatum. Reneilwe is nervous for her big interview, and Shakes plays Fats aka RuffNek’s song on air. Zinzi and Sakhile secretly get back together, and RuffNek’s song is a hit with listeners. Elsewhere, Bongi’s furious when she finds out that Sakhile held Zinzi against her will.
