Mazwi’s (Musa Ngema) ready to move on from his wife Simphiwe’s (Asanda Foji) suicide on their wedding day in December last year – with his mistress Nolwazi (Thando Thabethe). His guilt over neglecting his wife and, in part, driving her to suicide has faded and Mazwi’s ready to make things official with Nolwazi and make her his wife. “He’s fallen in love with her and feels she completes him,” says Musa. “She’s feisty and he enjoys trying to keep up with her.” But is Nolwazi ready to walk down the aisle with the Moroka heir? Not when she finds out what a tricky process it’ll be.

LET’S GET HITCHED!

“I think she loves him but thinks he’s too ambitious and can’t make up his mind about anything,” Musa explains. After some apprehension, Nolwazi accepts Mazwi’s proposal on Friday 27 May. “She agrees to become his wife when he says that he’ll always choose her over his family.” But uncle Tebogo (Joe Mafela) bursts his nephew’s bubble when he reveals that being a Moroka is more than just a title when Mazwi brings up the topic of marriage. “Uncle Tebogo says that Nolwazi isn’t fit to be a Moroka bride as she isn’t worth anything to the family,” says Musa.

WEB OF LIES

After going to the trouble of convincing Nolwazi to marry him, Mazwi isn’t about to tell his fiancée that his family thinks she isn’t good enough for him, especially as he told her that she comes first. “Uncle Tebogo is already looking for a suitable wife for him, but Mazwi is trying to stall the situation until he can hatch a plan to get Tebogo to change his mind about Nolwazi,” says Musa of Mazwi’s actions on Wednesday 1 June. What’s a guy to do to avoid an arranged marriage? “Get Nolwazi pregnant so that he has to marry her. And the bonus will be that she’ll be carrying the Moroka heir, so he’s sure Uncle Tebogo will be happy about that.”

THINGS FALL APART

But Mazwi’s plan may fall through the cracks when the elders present a list that they’ve drawn up on Friday 3 June with possible brides for him. And when Nolwazi finds out, all hell breaks loose. “She is done with being second,” Musa says. Looks like Mazwi’s engagement may be over. For now…
