The truth comes out

Is the mighty Jack Mabaso as invincible as he believes?

Dead Zola (left) is coming back to haunt big, bad Jack. Weekdays SABC1 (*191) 20:00

Jack Mabaso’s ( Vusi Kunene) criminal empire is showing cracks on Thursday 9 June when Detective Zondo (Nico Mkhabela) reopens the case into Zola’s (Mutodi Neshehe) death in March. Zola’s widow Karabo (Connie Ferguson) has been trying to convince Zondo that Jack was involved in what was ruled a suicide after Zola drove into a bridge on his way to reveal info that would’ve affected Jack’s business. It looks like teaming up with the Phakades in late May has worked for Karabo – because Zondo has changed Zola’s case status to murder.

RATTLED

“The reopening of the case sets Jack’s alarm bells off,” Vusi explains. “What has been discovered by Zondo? Can he quickly do damage control?” That’s always a man like Jack’s first thought. Can the investigating officer be paid off? The new image that Jack’s been selling to the people is threatened. It could be the end of him when he’s barely even started, but he doesn’t panic. He’s always in control.” Or so he thinks… On Friday 10 June, Jack begins to cover his bases in an effort to ensure nothing can be traced back to him.

KEEP YOUR FRIENDS CLOSE…

He begins with Kobus (Jacques Gombault), his right-hand man in business who took over as CEO when Zola died. “Jack’s relationship with Kobus gets tested when the investigation happens. He has to know if he’s safe with Kobus. Jack, no doubt, wants to pull him even closer, to make sure that he stays under his control,” Vusi says. But it isn’t long before Kobus finds himself backed into a corner – on Tuesday 14 June, between his loyalty towards Jack and his life being threatened by Karabo and Gadaffi Phakade (Vuyo Dabula), Kobus must decide whether to finally talk and deliver the deathblow needed to bring Jack down or stay mum.

TATTLE TALE

On Monday 20 June, Jack discovers that he has been betrayed and he’s spitting venom. “No one likes to be ratted out and Jack is no exception. He’s always hated traitors and has dealt with them severely,” says Vusi. “He definitely suspects Karabo. She’s made no secret of wanting to bring him down. He doesn’t suspect Kobus, who is his weakest link.”

But while he’s trying to figure out who snitched on him, Jack has to face the consequences of his crimes being exposed. “He knows that he can’t touch Zondo,” he says. “All he can do is make sure that Zondo has no case.”
