Hi tvplus. Now that Sello is on Rockville, does that mean he has left Scandal!? – VANESSA, PINETOWN

Thanks to soapies filming well in advance, fans of Sello Maake Ka-Ncube will be able to see him on two different shows at once… for a while. His Rockville (2013- current) character Rolex Ngidi makes his first appearance on the Mzansi Magic drama on Sunday 24 July and fans will be able to see him as Lucas Nyathi on e.tv on Scandal! (2006- current) all the way until late September – after which Lucas will exit, although not necessarily permanently. Scandal!’s doors will remain open to Sello and Lucas and according to the Scandal! production team, “Sello Maake Ka-Ncube, who has played the role of Daniel and Lucas Nyathi on Scandal! for many years, will be pursuing other career opportunities. His character will still remain alive in the world of Scandal!, with the possibility of returning to the screen in the future. We would like to thank Sello for his unbelievable talent and time on the show. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”

Journalist Naledi Thebe (Dineo Moeketsi) has been searching for her uncle Kingsley Seseko Langa (Hlomla Dandala) since Thursday 7 July after finding out that her late father Hector (Tumisho Masha) left a major block of shares in his company to his half-brother. While Hector’s death has brought other members of the family crawling out of the woodwork, like Naledi’s mom Yvonne (Kgomotso Christopher), “Uncle Seseko” seems to have vanished into thin air. But it looks like Naledi’s message has gotten through at last. And on Friday 29 July, we’ll be as excited as Naledi is to welcome Seko to Newtown.

GOOD GUY WITH A PAST

While Hector went head-to-head with Scandal!’s heavyweight bad-guy Lucas (Sello Maake Ka-Ncube – read more on p4) in a quest for vengeance, human rights lawyer Seko is more of a mild-mannered good guy. Scandal!’s production describes Seko as “suave, charismatic and graceful”, adding that he’s “a proud man of few words who strives for justice and is always fighting for the underdog. He is an introvert who avoids publicity but has an air of nobility”. But while Hlomla was drawn to “the description of the man as one whose ideals surpassed any laws,” he hints at a darkness in Seko’s past. “Playing people who carry history and are scarred is always interesting and is a great basis to grow a three-dimensional character,” Hlomla adds.

HECTOR & YVONNE

When Hector comes knocking at Naledi’s door, he’s not looking to cash in on his brother’s death. What’s weighing on his heart is a need for “resolution, understanding and a reconnection to a past that has left him scarred,” reveals Hlomla. And we’ll be eagerly watching this first face-to-face confrontation with Naledi’s mom Yvonne. “There is unfinished business and the moment is charged. Clearly there was something between them that was more than just a passing affection,” hints Hlomla. Let the speculation begin…
