Season 1 BBC Brit (*120) 20:00 Caspar (left) and Joe.

From YouTube to the smallscreen, pals Caspar Lee and Joe Sugg are taking on the challenge of a European roadtrip in their travel-comedy special Joe & Caspar Hit The Road (2015). But what is it that 22-year-old lead star Caspar is famous for? Video-blogging – and as South African-raised Caspar says, “People like laughing at the videos. I didn’t think I’d be so successful – it’s crazy!”

Caspar was born in London but 1

was raised in Knysna and he went to Crawford College in Durban. He finished school in 2011, the same year he started his self-titled YouTube channel.

After partnering up with other 2

vloggers, including Grace Helbig (host of The Grace Helbig Show in 2015), Caspar’s YouTube subscriber count skyrocketed to over 6 million.

He returned to London in 2012 and 3

has capitalised on his online fame – he owns self-branded online clothing store casparleeclothing.com, specialising in unisex hoodies and T-shirts.

Caspar’s also an actor and played 4

motormouth character Garlic in 2014 local movie Spud 3: Learning To Fly. His vlogging also nabbed Caspar a spot as himself in Lisa Kudrow’s sitcom Web Therapy (2011-2015) for two episodes in season 6 (2014).

He was diagnosed with stuttering 5

Tourette Syndrome when he was six and says Caspar, “I’m not looking for attention and I’m not looking for sympathy. I’m just trying to raise awareness for a disorder I know a lot about. My ‘tic’ is to make pig-like noises.”

Caspar enjoys chilling at a bar or 6

hanging out with his flatmate Joe and Caspar’s ex-girlfriend and media personality Gaby Jones – they split up in 2014 after dating for a few months.
