Supergirl isn’t Krypton’s most famous superhero on Earth, thanks to cousin Superman. But bubbly blonde Melissa Benoist is doing a fine job as Kara ZorEl – aka Supergirl aka Kara Danvers – on sci-fi series Supergirl (2015-current).

her natural hair colour is brunette. Luckily she says that “apparently they weren’t that strict with casting, since Kara in the comics is blonde with blue eyes. I’m darker with green eyes”.

And acting wasn’t her first love 2

either. Melissa started her showbiz career as a singer and was then cast as Young Laurel in 2008 musical movie Tennessee, alongside real-life singing diva Mariah Carey.

The 27-year-old Texan also sang 3

on Glee (2009-2015), playing Marley Rose from 2012 to 2014.

Those two Glee years got her more 4

than just 25 episode appearances and a singing job, says Melissa: “I found my soulmate working there!” She wed 24-year-old Blake Jenner in 2015 – he played Ryder Lynn from 2012 to 2015.

Melissa has three tattoos, but you 5

won’t see them when she’s dressed as Supergirl. She has a feather at the base of her neck, a wolf on the inside of her left wrist and a bicycle on her ankle. Why a bicycle? “I never really learnt to ride back home in Texas, but then I moved to New York and had to learn pretty quickly,” she laughs.

One thing that she has taken a bit 6

longer to master is the wirework that lets Supergirl fly, adding that “Tyler Hoechlin (her new co-star, who is playing Superman on season 2) makes it look so easy. It’s not fair!” Tyler is best known for playing Derek Hale in sci-fi show Teen Wolf (2011-currnet) until he quit in 2014.
