With his taxi business in the works, widower Kop (Setlhabi Taunyane) is suddenly the main man in town and the ladies are knocking on his door, trying to win his affections. And the love action starts on Friday 23 June when Kop’s neighbour Cuba (Magi Noninzi Williams) starts worming her way into his heart and home. “Cuba is gunning for him,” laughs Setlhabi. “She has been attracted to him for a while, but it’s different now and she won’t let him slip through her hands.” Kop’s friends chased her off when she came calling in March this year, but Cuba isn’t giving up. “She thinks that Kop is lonely [like her] and she wants him to start over… with her by his side,” explains Setlhabi.

LOVE ON THE BRAIN

Cuba hasn’t come alone though – she’s

brought back-up on Tuesday 27 June in the form of her best friend Blossom (Slindile Nodandla). “Cuba talks her into helping clean Kop’s house, cook for him and even write him poems,” says Setlhabi. But Blossom has a lightbulb moment: why help her bestie find a man to care for her when she can take Kop herself?

Blossom isn’t like Cuba – she isn’t going to try change Kop and mould him into Alexandra Township’s most eligible taxi owner. Instead, “She is going to let him be who he is,” explains Setlhabi. “Don’t forget: Kop is a good person. He’s a caring guy and Blossom sees that and she wants to take care of him too.” The women are warring with each other to replace Kop’s late wife Mamokete (Connie Chiume), who died in April 2016. “They’re risking their friendship over Kop. Cuba will do anything to win his heart and Blossom will too, surprisingly,” explains Setlhabi.

WAR PATH

Cuba questions Blossom’s jumpy behaviour around Kop on Wednesday 28 June but Blossom plays dumb, denying Cuba’s accusations. “Cuba is jealous of the bond that Blossom shares with Kop. She doesn’t take well to rejection and goes crazy when she realises that she might lose Kop,” says Setlhabi. Cuba has been advising Kop with his business decisions and she believes that without her knowledge, he wouldn’t be where he is. “But she’s too forward for Kop. She throws her weight around and it’s too much for him,” says Setlhabi. Plus, he isn’t focused on rushing into a romantic relationship – he is concerned with his superstar singer niece Reneilwe (Amo Chidi) who’s been avoiding him while promoting her new album. “It’s a new phase in Kop’s life and he isn’t used to having all this attention from women. For now, he wants to make things work with Renei more than anything else,” says Setlhabi.
