Praise be to Gloria
“Duma’s meddling mom is greedy,” reveals Isibaya newcomer Clementine Mosimane.

Clementine Mosimane is no newcomer to drama. She played Thandi until 2003 on SABC1 drama show Soul City (1994-2015) and she has been on more soapies than you can name, including Rhythm City (2007current), The Wild (2011-2013) and Gold Diggers (2015- current). And she isn’t done by any means! “I absolutely love this Gloria. She’s a breath of fresh air and there is nothing like her,” squeals Clementine when tvplus chatted to her after a day on set. “I have never read a character like this and I’ve had to dig extra deep to bring her to life.”
Who is Gloria? Oooh, sweetie – she is a crazy mother! Gloria has come to the village and is trying to play matchmaker for her son Duma (Muzi Mthabela) and Mabuyi (Samukele Mkhize). But she is not being honest at all. So she doesn’t just want to see her son happy and in love? No. [Laughs] Whatever Gloria does, there’s an agenda to it – she’s greedy and she’s only looking out for herself. Gloria is this woman who comes in and she says one thing, means another and is doing something else while no one is looking. She plays sweet but she isn’t. Is there any part of Clementine shining through in Gloria? Oh no! [Laughs] There is nothing of Clementine in her – she is all Gloria, all the time! We are completly different people with everything. Maybe that is why I’m loving playing her, because she is so different to me. And what is her end goal? I wish I could tell you, but even I don’t know. The scriptwriters are still plotting with her and I haven’t really had a chance to sit with them and talk about her. But for now, Gloria is grabbing what she can while she’s in town. You need to keep an eye on that one [Laughs] – she is very, very devious! Do you have any favourite new castmates? Yes I do – all of them! These are all new actors that I’m working with for the first time and they are like every other cast: different. That’s what makes them great, you know? You are welcomed to this family for however long you’re with the show and you get to laugh with them and cry with them and develop your role with them.
