Married In A Flash

-

Season 1 SABC3 (*193) 19:30 Reality Weddings usually take months to plan and couples decide on the venue and décor and the little details that they’ve always dreamt about. But in reality show Married In A Flash (2017-current), they get just three days and R75 000 to tie the knot. “It’s stressful,” says presenter Nolu Malope, who hosts religious talkshow More Than A Song (2014current), Thursdays on 1 Gospel (DStv *331). “Weddings are a big deal. If you are lucky, it’s a once in a lifetime thing – doing everything that you’ve dreamt of in just three days with cameras on you is going to be tricky!”

Was it easy switching from a gospel show to reality TV? It felt like I was being thrown into the deep end. I grew up in a house where spirituality is part of our lives. My mom Rebecca Malope is one of the country’s best-known gospel singers, so this felt like I was leaving home Rebecca and joining a whole new world. Malope. Have the nerves set in? What nerves? [Laughs] There aren’t any shoes to fill because I’m the first presenter, so I’m going to have fun setting the tone for the show – there’s no pressure on me. Do you have fun planning with the couples? Being part of the weddings makes it all worth it. We’ll be filming with 13 pairs and I’m excited that we are covering every type of wedding that you find in South Africa: heterosexual, gay, interracial – everything is there! And what won’t viewers see? There’s an after-party with the production crew after each wedding. We dance and celebrate and have fun with the couple. It’s a sigh of relief and a moment where we ask ourselves, “Wow, did we really do this in just 72 hours?”
