Diederik’s desperation to feed his addiction gets attention.

Diederik (Hennie Jacobs) is on a rollercoaster heading for collision. His addiction has taken over his life and he’s scrambling to get cash for a new stash to feed his habit. With no job and no source of income – he was fired from ad company Bruynwaves on Monday 5 March for disrespecting his boss Vanessa (Ingrid Paulus) – he asked his cousin Marko (Francois Lensley) to lend him “rent money” on Monday 26 March. Marko ponied up the cash but quickly regrets his decision on Wednesday 28 March when he finds out what Diedie actually needs this socalled “rent money” for.
EAVESDROP SHOCK
Marko is confronted with the ugly truth when he arrives at his cousin’s flat on Wednesday 28 March and he overhears a phone conversation that Diederik is having with his dealer. Hillside doctor Alexa (Carina Nel) is roped in to help save Diedie when Marko realises that he’ll need help. “Marko demands to know what is going on, but Diederik tries to play it down,” explains Hennie. Luckily Marko knows when he’s being lied to and he takes the situation into his own hands on Thursday 29 March, forcing his cousin to stay at his place under lock, key and 24/ 7 supervision until the rugs are out of his system. “Diederik isn’t willing to co- operate at first,” reveals Hennie, “but when withdrawal sets in, Diedie starts to give up. Things take a turn for the worse [on Friday 30 March] when the real withdrawal kick in, but that’s only the tip of the iceberg…”
LEAPING LAWYER
Hillside lawyer Lesedi (KB Motsilanyane) visits Marko on Monday 2 April to get some information on Diederik’s strange behaviour to help her with the lawsuit that Diederik has brought against her client, sportshop owner Fikani (Nicolas Chauke). When Lesedi arrives at Marko’s apartment, she sees Diederik suffering from withdrawals and she knows straight away that his drug addiction is behind the lawsuit. Armed with this new info, Lesedi is ready to annihilate Diederik in court on Wednesday 4 April but her plans are derailed when Fikani finds out the truth and orders her to stop. On Thursday 5 April, Diedie finds himself at a crossroads. “He will make a big decision about his future and my hope is we will see the old Diederik rise from the ashes,” says Hennie with hope.
