Nina And The Neurons

-

Season 6 SABC2 (*192) 15:15 Kiddies

Think that you’ve got a young Einstein on your hands? It’s never to early for edutainment for kids and that’s what Nina And The Neurons (2007-2015) is all about. “It’s a 15-minute introduction to science for children aged four to six,” says presenter Katrina Bryan, who stars as neuroscientist host Nina. “Our animated characters the Neurons help our guests with their experiments. It’s quick and will keep viewers entertained without losing their attention.”

1 The Neurons are the five senses (touch, hearing, sight, smell and taste) and they’re in Nina’s head rather than actual characters that interact with the studio guests. The experiments are designed by 2 real-life scientists who test everything beforehand to make sure that it’s safe and actually works. Whenever Nina is driving her car 3 and explaining more about the experiment, her car is being towed on a flatbed trailer around the studio building while a cameraman films. The truck stays at 10km/h for safety. The show really is taped at the 4 Glasgow Science Centre in Scotland and while they’re not seen, there is a full studio audience of kids. Each season has a different theme 5 – season 6 is the human body. And while the main song is the same, each season also has its own closing theme song that Nina and the Neurons sing. The guests who send Nina a ques6 tion via email are often guests to the Glasgow Science Centre who the producers get to ask questions based on episodes they’ve already planned. Fans can also buy props from the 7 set at the Science Centre, where there is a daily set tour too.

The man who is thrown under the bridge in Mr Right (on M-Net City at 20:50) is the movie’s director Paco Cabezas.
