Alexa’s secret exposed
There’s a new man in Alexa’s life, but he uncovers a truth that she never wanted to confront.
Initially Alexa (Carina Nel) didn’t want anything to do with Kevin (Ashish Gangapersad, Prada the IT guy in Isidingo, 1998-current), the new man in Hillside who’s filming a documentary on the recent Haven-hostage saga. “Kevin bewitches Alexa with his charm and before she knows it, they have started dating,” says Carina. But Kevin exposes something that happened in her past and leaves Alexa wondering if he is her Mr Right.
SMITTEN BY HIS CHARM
Being told that Alexa is a doctor at the Hillside Clinic, Kevin approaches her to be an expert interview guest on posttraumatic stress for his doccie and to explain how the condition influences the victim. On Wednesday 5 December, Kevin asks Alexa if he can interview her about her experience in Africa when she was with Doctors Without Borders (in March 20117) and what it taught her about post-traumatic stress. She’s hesitant at first, says Carina. “She isn’t comfy in front of cameras and she doesn’t like being in the spotlight. And viewers will remember she was very different when she returned from Africa [in May 2017]. She didn’t dress as flashy and was a lot more down to Earth.”
AN UNWANTED QUESTION
Despite her initial refusal, Kevin persuades Alexa to do the interview the next day on Thursday 6 December even though it will be broadcast live. “Everything is going well and Alexa is answering the questions as thoroughly as possible. But then out of the blue, Kevin asks her what happened to her while she was in Africa,” says Carina. We can’t tell you what she endured, but we can say that it’s a huge secret that Alexa never planned on telling anyone. “She is deeply shocked by Kevin’s question and immediately wants to know where on Earth he heard about it, knowing how careful she has been to keep it hidden.” Alexa confronts Kevin on Friday 7 December, demanding to know his true intentions and the real reason for his visit to Hillside. “Her trust in him is shattered and she realises he’s only there to get a sensationalist story.”
A ROMANCE OR NOT?
Alexa’s family embrace her when they hear about her TV appearance. “She is grateful for their support, but actually she doesn’t want them to make a big deal of it. Personally, she thinks that she has put the whole thing behind her.” But will she forgive Kevin and continue their new relationship? Only time will tell.
