Layla (Natasha Sutherland) will be on the case from Friday 4 January, viewers have been snickering on the other end of the line for a while now… with Mthunzi’s mistress Yvonne (Kgomotso Christopher). “We all know that Yvonne thrives when she’s causing trouble. Especially for people who she feels need her payback,” says Kgomotso mischievously. “It’s lovely for her to be in the Langas’ realm without their knowledge. She loves to ruffle people up. Mthunzi’s wife Xolile (Sivenathi Mabuya) was clear that she isn’t interested in being amicable or having a relationship when Yvonne was the second wife to Boniswa. So she doesn’t feel bad about Xolile.”

But as much as Yvonne loves to make mischief, if she reaches the point where her sneaking about endangers her trust fund, she will have no trouble tossing Mthunzi like old slippers. “What’s interesting in the way that this storyline has been written is that for once, we get to see Yvonne be detached from the love and not needing the love. She could never really get over
Siseko (Hlomla Dandala). She was hurt about what happened with Damon (Craig Urbani), who left her at the altar in Feb 2017. But with Mthunzi, it’s about money and nothing else. He doesn’t realise that Yvonne is a woman unto herself. She doesn’t like to be controlled and she doesn’t need him at all,” says Kgomotso.

Aside from Mthunzi though, there aren’t many romantic options available. “That’s tricky because she’s pretty much done the rounds with everyone, right?” laments Kgomotso. “Neo (Jerry Mofokeng Wa Makhetha) told her that it’s not going to happen as much as he is in love with her. Unless there’s a new character, she’s done ’em all.” So Kgomotso’s wish for the year is to see Yvonne shake off the last of that Langa wife good behaviour from 2018. “I’d love her to be more of the hustler that she was when she arrived. I want her back into those dodgy deals, I want that gambling side, the chance-taker and schemer.” Make it so, Scandal!
