Bridgette October (Denise Newman) shows her softer side on Wednesday 2 January when she decides to help Rhafiek and Carmen (Irshaad Ally and Desiré Gardner). The couple suffered a setback in 2018 with their new estate agency when a super-expensive home they were planning to sell fell through and their much-needed commission vanished before their eyes. Bridgette is willing to see them through the rough patch – but only if her devious husband Ian October (Abduraghmaan Adams) doesn’t stop her. He’s the owner of Suidooster Properties and still holds a grudge against his former employees.

ULTERIOR MOTIVE?

Bridgette is sincere in her offer, says Denise: “She thinks that it was mean of her husband to sabotage their previous deal. She isn’t as heartless as he is, so she goes behind his back and sells them a house that’s been on the Suidooster Properties’ list for some time due to its dilapidated state.” She helps them to buy it anonymously so that Ian doesn’t suspect anything and gives them the opportunity to fix it up and sell for a tidy little profit, adds the actress.

MAD ABOUT THE MONEY

Carmen is pleasantly surprised on Friday 4 January when she hears that the purchase has been approved, until Rhafiek tells her that he borrowed the money for the property from his sister

Bianca (Simone Biscombe). The money was actually from a trust fund for Bianca’s daughter Stella (Phoenix Isabella Bennett) and “Carmen feels that the risk is too big to use Stella’s money. What if something goes wrong?” says Denise. Rhafiek is taken aback by his wife’s reaction and gets the feeling that she doesn’t have faith in their project. Still upset, he asks Bridgette to rather cancel the deal that same day.

TRYING AGAIN

Rhafiek desperately tries to find a new source of income on Monday 7 January and Carmen can see that her husband is unhappy. She realises that she was selfish and let her fears get in the way of a great opportunity for their business. She convinces Rhafiek on Tuesday 8 January to go back to Bridgette and see if she will sell them the house after all.

Rhafiek and Carmen start renovating on Wednesday 9 January and they enjoy working together, putting their dramas behind them. But the next day, Carmen’s fears come true when Ian’s lawyers serve them with a notice to stop all work on the property as they bought it under false pretences. Will the couple be able to overcome this latest setback? Not if Ian has his way.
