Affairs to dismember

Salem slaughter, foetus-stealing and slut-slapping made for a memorable year.

-

2018 was a mixed bag for Days Of Our Lives. A few truly twisted highlights aside, Salem action was as slow as that dratted diamond smuggling elephant statue until October. That’s when all hell suddenly broke loose as Days’ new writer launched into a murderous rampage in the build-up to all its 50th anniversary action. Here are our most memorable moments and the scenes that we’d like to see in 2019…

SNATCH & DESPATCH

Psycho Kristen (Eileen Davidson) proved herself a true DiMera when no medical miracle became too absurd. She stole Brady (Eric Martsolf) and Theresa’s (Jen Lilley) foetus from Theresa’s womb on Wednesday 10 January and gave birth to it offscreen at the DiMera castle in Italy. As everyone descended on the castle in June, Kristen gave the order to kill, but when she found herself face-to-face with Marlena (Deidre Hall), she wanted to take care of her most bitter rival personally. Marlena then got the upper hand on Thursday 28 June and shoved Kristen out the castle window instead. Splat!

SLUT SLAPPING

JJ (Casey Moss) and his ex- girlfriend Paige’s (True O’Brien) mom Eve (Kassie DePaiva) – his mom Jennifer’s (Melissa Reeves) high school rival – may have claimed that they were having hate sex, but it was clear that it was really, really tasty because they kept tackling each other back into bed. Meek-andmumsy Jennifer turned into a wild fury as she leapt on the bed and tried to smother Eve with a pillow after she walked in on them in the act on Monday 7 May. Paige’s meltdown when she uncovered the truth and the fact that she slapped a birthday cake right out of JJ’s hands on Friday 20 July were also truly impressive scenes for fans.

HUMP & DUMP

Chad (Billy Flynn) and Abby’s (Kate Mansi) liaison in the rose garden of the DiMera mansion was the height of romance on Thursday 2 August. But there was no sweet-morning-after. Not only did cheating Abby fall pregnant thanks to the fling, Chad crushed her heart by crudely commenting that his late brother EJ (James Scott) must have taught her a trick in bed as he ruthlessly dumped her to save her from later heartbreak on Wednesday 8 August. Because that is what you do when Daddy Stefano (Joseph Mascolo) shows a sinister interest in your love life.

NECKTIE KILLER

The biggest upset of 2018 was on Tuesday 4 December when Necktie Killer Ben Weston (Robert Scott Wilson) killed his best friend Will Horton (Guy Wilson) just as Will and his husband Sonny (Freddie Smith) were preparing to reconcile. The murder was shot from the killer’s view so fans got to see Will’s super- creepy dying struggles. The funeral was a tearjerker, although we rejoiced for the people it brought back to Salem, while the second victim Paige’s funeral on Tuesday 27 November turned sympathies towards her mess of a mom Eve. As for first victim Serena (Melissa Archer), no big loss.

WHAT WE WANT IN 2019

It’s clear that Days isn’t giving us the happily-ever-after for Bo and Hope (Peter Reckell and Kristian Alfonso). So without peeking to see what happens (we’re still three years behind the US), we want EJ to return thanks to Sami (Alison Sweeney) and announce that Chad’s birth certificate has his name wrong so that one of Days’ most exciting characters isn’t stuck being called Chad! We want Will (the Chandler Massey version) back from the dead and in Sonny’s arms, and John and Paul (Drake Hogestyn and Christopher Sean) can hunt for John’s “real” parents together. Is that too much to ask?
