Ron Livingston looks like a regular guynext- door, but in drama series A Million Little Things (2018- current) he is anything but average. His character Jon’s episode 1 suicide is the driving force on the show that Ron says should be a wake-up call for society because of the increasing suicide rate. “We need to be kinder to people, take care with them and remind them that they can get any help they need,” adds the 51-year-old.

1 He doesn’t mind being “that guy you know from somewhere but you can’t remember”, admitting that he took questionable roles just to pay rent. He’s been in everything from JAG (19952003) and Band Of Brothers (2001) to The Practice (1997-2003) and Boardwalk Empire (2010-2014).

2 TV has become a family business – his younger brother is an actor and older sister and brother-in-law are both news anchors in Wisconsin. Ron’s mom Linda is a pastor in Iowa, while his dad Kurt is an aerospace engineer.

3 Ron got more than just a salary as hostage negotiator Matt Flannery on 2006-2007 cop drama Standoff: he found his wife too. He dated his co-star Rosemarie DeWitt (Emily) for three years before marrying in 2009, and they adopted their daughters Gracie James (5) and Esperanza Mae (3) in 2013 and 2016.

4 He jokes that he’s a mommy’s boy and that he started his career in Chicago because “it’s within Greyhound [bus] distance from home and Mom”.

5 Having had so many one-episode roles and flop shows, Ron is pragmatic about work: “The worst they can do is fire you. They can’t take your thumbs. They’re not the mafia.”
