Showmax’s first-ever original drama series, the murder mystery The Girl From St Agnes (2019), will launch this month. It’s set in a posh girls’ boarding school in Ixopo in KZN, and informed by series producer Harriet Gavshon’s (whose credits include Intersexions, Hopeville, iNumber Number and 4Play: Sex Tips 4 Girls) own South African boarding school experiences, so it will be full of local flavour. But the big drama of the season won’t be who stole Brenda’s tuck money. After popular girl Lexi Summerveld (Jane De Wet) is found dead at the base of an old mill, drama teacher Kate Ballard (Nina Milner) doesn’t buy the school’s cover-up story that Lexi’s death was an accident. And the deeper she digs, the more suspects will come to light, especially when Lexi’s death links into South Africa’s #MeToo conversation. Look out for more sizzling originals coming up in 2019!
