The Last Kingdom

Season 3 M-Net (*101) 22:00 Drama

-

Alexander Dreymon knows how his character Uhtred feels in historical swordswinging drama The Last Kingdom (2015- current) because he is a bit of a nomad himself. “Uhtred is looking for a place to settle down and his yearning for a father figure, or someone that he can look up to, is almost a mirror of my life,” says the 36-year- old German. “My parents moved around a lot while I was growing up, so there is no place I can actually call home. And my father, who I now have a good relationship with, was absent most of my younger years.”

The role that got him noticed was one he wasn’t expecting, playing Luke Ramsey in a five-episode arc of American Horror Story: Coven in 2013. “It was the best time. Everything was so much bigger than the independent stuff that I had filmed before,” he says. As a child, Alex wanted to work in medicine… until the day that he visited a cousin and found their handheld camera. He adds that “it was love at first sight. I just hope that the mini movies we made never land online”. Alexander didn’t need a stuntdouble for his Last Kingdom role because he’s been riding horses and play-fighting since he was 12 when his family lived on a Native American reservation in South Dakota in the US. He also doesn’t mind showing some skin, admitting that he was almost caught streaking by the cops as a 20-year-old but hid behind a bush. The scar on his left cheek is real – he was cut during a season 2 fight scene. He’s also sprained both ankles and almost broke an arm in filming. And while he’s single now, you’ll need an accent to date him – Alex is partial to French or Greek women.
