Make no mistake about Ray Liotta: he loves playing bad guys. “Even my new character Matt Wozniak in Shades Of Blue (2016-2018), he’s a detective who is meant to serve and protect. But he is on the take. He uses his badge like it gives him authority to do whatever he wants and he’s untouchable. He is crooked and it’s so much fun,” says the 64-year-old New Yorker.

Playing mobster-turned-FBI informant Henry Hill in 1990 biographical drama film Goodfellas was a reality check for Ray. “I knew that Martin Scorsese was a big-name director, but I wasn’t prepared. Everything was bigger and grander. Even the coffee guy – we have four, not just one,” adds Ray. His adoptive parents never hid the fact that he was adopted and gave him the choice to meet his biological parents if he wanted. He only opted to meet his “real” mom in 2000 though. Ray has never commented on his changing looks and speculation of cosmetic surgery. His agent also screens interview question lists for this. He earned extra pocket money as a teen by handing out election pamphlets for his dad’s campaign for town council. Ray also worked in a cemetery during college as well. The actor supports English soccer team Tottenham Hotspur. When he’s in the UK, he watches matches live and stays up all night to watch broadcasts when he’s at home in LA. Ray is disenchanted with movies and says that while Shades Of Blue is finished, “I’m not running to get back [into films]. TV is way more fun”. Unlike other ageing celebs, Ray isn’t into golf – instead, he prefers horse-back riding on a ranch.
