Drastic times call for drastic measures

Lincoln has his eyes on Lungi, but Nina wants him all to herself after their romp.

-

Lincoln’s (Lindani Nkosi) recent onenight-stand with his business rival Nina (Khabonina Qubeka) meant absolutely nothing to him. As a matter of fact, he’s already moved on – and he sends hotel manager Lungi (Jo-Anne Reyneke) flowers this fortnight. “He regrets landing in bed with Nina,” says Lindani, whose character ignores Nina whenever they walk past each other in public. “Lincoln doesn’t want to be seen talking to her. He’s a wealthy businessman who owns mines and Nina is a gangster and a shebeen boss. It’s bad for his reputation.”

With Lincoln dodging and ducking Nina at every turn, she starts stalking him because she has feelings for him. Deep down, Nina thought that she was going to move into Lincoln’s mansion and they were going to put their shady history behind them. “She follows him everywhere and discovers that he has taken an interest in someone else. Nina is devastated, of course, but Lincoln doesn’t care, he’s only concerned with making Lungi happy. But Nina is fixed on tearing them apart before their romance takes off, even if that means snuggling up to his son.

A MAN WITH A PLAN

Lincoln hasn’t been in a serious relationship since he accidentally killed his wife Katlego (Kgomotso Christopher) while they were arguing in 2016. He pushed her and she hit her head on a cabinet before bleeding to death on the floor. Although he longed to remarry and have more kids, he was waiting for the right woman to come his way, explains Lindani. “Lungi is the total package. Not only is she classy and beautiful, she can hold an intelligent conversation,” adds the actor. Unlike Nina, Lungi is on par with Lincoln: she’s worked hard and faced obstacles in her path. She has had to show that she is better than everyone else just because she’s a woman. Lungi is successful and isn’t afraid of anyone – she stands her ground, so he can’t push her around like he did with Nina when he recently forced her to murder their nemesis Gabriel (Aubrey Poo). “Lincoln picks up subtle hints that Lungi is the woman that he has been searching for when they’re on dinner dates. She is poised and handles herself well – the type of woman that he can introduce to his business partners.”

NOT ON NINA’S WATCH

Nina doesn’t take kindly to Lincoln’s rejection, especially when she spots him and Lungi all cosy at a restaurant. Her heart shatters on the spot because she wants to be beside him. “Nina is hurt that Lincoln doesn’t give her the time of day. She expected him to be all over her after their night together, but he is out with another woman,” explains Lindani. “A hotel manager no less.”

Nina’s obsession with Lincoln sees her scheming to destroy Lincoln’s new romance in its infancy. She tracks them to the Bokamoso Hotel where they’re on a date, watching their every move from the shadows. “She arrives uninvited at the hotel and gatecrashes Lincoln’s date. Playing dumb, Lincoln lashes out at Nina and threatens her to leave or else,” explains Lindani. Lincoln then pushes Nina aside and continues his conversation with Lungi. Although Nina leaves sobbing, the threat falls on deaf ears because she turns her attention to Lincoln’s son Ntando (Lerato Makhetha), thinking that Lincoln will be jealous of her new love interest and want her back. “She will have to try harder than that to get Lincoln’s attention off Lungi,” reveals Lindani with a telling grin.
