Getting cold feet

Yet another obstacle jumps into the path of Rachel and Marothi’s wedding when his dark, twisted past is revealed weeks before their big day.

-

Nursing student Rachel (Lesego Marakalla) can count the days to her wedding with her sugardaddy businessman fiancé Marothi (Macks Papo). She should be painting the town red with her bridal glow, but instead she is an emotional wreck after her mother Celia (Shoki Sebotsane) drops a bombshell: rumour is going around Turfloop that Marothi killed his late offscreen wife Angie to get insurance money and he may very well do the same to Rachel once they get married. “At first Rachel thinks that it’s absolute madness,” says Lesego. “Marothi has always treated Rachel with the utmost respect and he’d never hurt a fly,” adds the actress, so Rachel is sticking by her man’s side until the police find concrete evidence against him. “All she can do is trust Marothi’s character despite her mother’s warnings,” reveals Lesego.

ALARM BELLS

To Rachel’s understanding, Angie died in a tragic car accident more than ten years ago. “She lost control of the car and died on the spot,” says Lesego. But Celia claims otherwise. She believes that Marothi orchestrated the crash by damaging Angie’s brakes before she went on the road. “Rachel is trying to convince herself that Celia is making all this up. How can Marothi do such an unspeakable thing to the woman that he loved?” says Lesego. There are just too many holes to the story and if the claims were true, the police would’ve long uncovered the truth and Marothi would be locked up in prison.

“Marothi was found innocent,” says Lesego. He mother, who has never approved of the relationship, swears that there is new evidence that could prove his guilt. “Rachel doesn’t want to hear any of it. It’s too much for her! She warns her mother to stay away from her relationship or else she’ll uninvite Celia to the wedding,” add Lesego.

OFF BALANCE

It isn’t long before Rachel thinks that her mother is the villainous evil queen in her fairytale, trying to ruin her happily- ever-after. Celia has never liked Marothi and she’s tried multiple times to end their romance, like when she threw Marothi’s elders out of her house during the lobola negotiations in November last year. “Celia wants Rachel to be with someone her age. Marothi is old enough to be her father and Celia doesn’t think that he is good enough for her daughter in the first place. Rachel on the other hand thinks that the rumour is another one of Celia’s stunts to try stop her from marrying Marothi,” adds the actress.

OUT OF ORDER

But Celia isn’t the only one determined to keep Rachel from getting her dream wedding. Marothi’s young ex- girlfriend

Botshelo (Neo Ramitshana) is spreading the rumour to anyone who’s willing to listen too. Botshelo has been waiting for this moment for a long time and wants to avenge him for dumping her last year to go back to Rachel. “Botshelo doesn’t have her facts checked. All she wants is to see Marothi in pain,” says Lesego. Botshelo goes as far as forming an alliance with Celia to expose Marothi’s so- called chequered past and “Rachel is willing to go against them to help Marothi clear his name. It’s a fight that Rachel is not willing to lose. The wedding of her dreams will happen whether Celia and Botshelo like it or not,” reveals Lesego in a determined voice.
