Last Man Standing
Season 7 Weekdays M-Net Dec/Sat (*101) 16:30/17:30 Comedy
Tim Allen found a new lease on his TV career when he was cast as grump Mike Baxter in dry sitcom Last Man Standing (2011-now). “I thought that I was done on TV,” admits the 66-year- old. “It was seven years since my last role. Sure, I had movie jobs, but there is something about TV that you can’t get anywhere else. It’s a rush.” Tim certainly knows all about adrenaline rushes…
He spent two years in prison in 1 1978 after being arrested and trying to flee police at Kalamazoo airport in Michigan. “I had a fair amount of cocaine in my luggage. I was charged with drug trafficking and it was the best thing for me. Prison put me in a position of great humility,” says Tim. He has also relapsed numerous 2 times with his booze addiction and checked into rehab in 1998 after being publicly arrested for drunk driving.
He’s been sober for 20 years, although he’s not a fan of Alcoholics Anonymous because he doesn’t want a plastic chip as a reminder of his sins.
The stand-up comedian and actor 3 used his role as Tim “The Toolman” Taylor on sitcom Home Improvement (1991-1999) to get into the tool trade. His ex-wife Laura Diebel (they were married 1984-2003) has been the CEO of Tim Allen Signature Tools since 1996. As much as Tim enjoys work and 4 loves muscle cars, he’s also a huge nature conservation advocate. He has spent almost $7 million (R103 million) buying undeveloped land across the US that will stay “as nature intended,” says Tim, leaving it to nature conservation organisations in his will.
