Elen Rhys is care-free in her personal life, but it’s a different story when she slips into her character Miranda Blake’s shoes on fun action show The Mallorca Files (2019-now). “She is by-the-books and doesn’t deviate. Miranda is a strict detective, she doesn’t like change. She is this character we want to see soften up, you want to see her smile,” says the 36-year-old Welsh actress who had an extra- ordinary audition for the role.

Wilf. I did a video audition and my belly took up 75% of the screen. I had to convince the producers that I would be back into ‘cop’ shape. Five months of gym and I was ready,” says Elen.

Her favourite cheat meal is fish and chips from the corner cafe, which she eats once a week.

Before Mallorca Files, her favourite role was arguably the one with the least work – she played a flight attendant in 2013 zombie movie World War Z, revealing that “I watched as much of the filming as possible even if I wasn’t meant to be on set. And it had nothing to do Brad Pitt being the lead star…”

Julian Looman (detective Max) love potatoes and they eat spud-based meals every night while filming on location in Mallorca, Spain. And while she’s fluent in Welsh, she says that “speaking Spanish is absolutely foreign to me, pun intended. I should learn it before we film season 2 later this year – I swear the crew are all gossiping about me”.
