A mother’s instinct
Nirupa is desperate to save her framed daughter Shria.
The death of businessman Pranav Rampersad (Koobeshen Naidoo) earlier this year still hangs over his daughter Shria (Kajal Maharaj) and wife Nirupa’s (Jailoshini Naidoo) heads. They suspected the Bhengus’ involvement as Ngcolosi Bhengu was with Pranav when he died. “There’s been war between the families ever since, and Nirupa isn’t changing her mind about her enemies’ guilt,” says Jailoshini. Shria has hired shady investigator Zamazama (Khayelihle Ngubane) to link the Bhengus and Pranav’s death, but what she didn’t expect was Zamazama going to Ngcolosi’s sons Nkululeko (Nkanyiso Mchunu) and Zithulele (Raphael Griffiths) and convincing them that Shria hired him to kill their dad. The brothers are out for blood, believing Zamazama’s lies, and wanting Shria arrested for murder.
A SNEAKY TRAP
“Nirupa and Shria had been working secretly to gather evidence against the Bhengus. Nirupa was unaware that her daughter hired someone like Zamazama to dig for dirt,” says Jailoshini. So she’s not suspecting anything when Nkululeko and Zithulele ask her and
Shria to come to Maluju Oil to sign a new business contract. Instead, Nirupa and Shria are greeted by the police. “They are both charged with conspiring to kill Ngcolosi and the mother and daughter are arrested on the spot. It’s a shock for both of them and they don’t know what to say. It’s just a massive jolt to their system,” explains Jailoshini.
JAILBIRD
Nirupa is granted bail, but not Shria. “She’s charged as the mastermind and she’s kept behind,” says Jailoshini. Of course Nirupa freaks out because she’s afraid for her daughter’s safety. “It isn’t a safe place as all. Shria is devastated and has a hard time adjusting to life in jail.” The concern is justified when Shria is beaten up in jail, unaware that it was a hit. “Nirupa’s maternal instincts kick in. She vows to track down Zamazama, get the truth and exonerate her daughter,” says Jailoshini.
PAY THE MONEY
The web of lies is about to get a whole lot stickier, because Zamazama makes contact with Nirupa and tells her that he’ll give her the evidence she needs to clear Shria’s name – but at a price. “Nirupa is desperate. She is prepared to pay the money no questions asked,” says Jailoshini. That doesn’t mean an easy resolution, warns the actress: “This mess is far from over and it’s going to take a lot to get Shria out of jail.”
