It takes something extra to stand out in the crowded world of telenovelas – and Ana Brenda Contreras has it, portraying sultry legal eagle Alejandra Ponce in new telenovela Law Of The Heart (2016, called La Ley Del Corazón when it aired in Colombia). “I was told that I had the ‘X factor’ in my teens, but I prefer to think that it’s my hard work and dedication that has made me successful,” says the 34-year-old, who played troublemaker Aurora Alcázar in the Mexican telenovela Teresa (2010-2011).
1 Ana has a US accent when speaking English because she is an US citizen. She was born in McAllen, Texas and reveals, “I moved to Mexico City in 2001 to pursue a music career and won reality show Mexico Pop Stars (2002)”.
2 The TV star was accepted to study at Mexico’s prestigious Centro De Educación Artística Acting Academy in 2003 and she earned her degree in acting and fine arts in 2007.
3 Ana loves stage musicals and when she gets time, she still does stage work. She is best known for playing feisty prostitute Aldonza in the 2007 performance of Man Of La Mancha.
4 She loves villain roles and played Cristal Jennings in the reboot of drama series Dynasty (2017-present), played by Linda Evans in the original Dynasty (19811989) and 1991 miniseries Dynasty Reunion. Ana was forced to quit the role in 2018 for undisclosed medical reasons. Daniella Alonso (Zoey in medical drama The Resident, 2018-now) took over. NB! See p36.
