Precious makes a plan

The broody Dr Dlamini takes matters into her own hands when she discovers that her husband is infertile.

Gynaecologist Precious (Lihle Dhlomo) is desperate to conceive. She believes that a baby is the only way to save her loveless marriage to promiscuous surgeon Thabo Dlamini (Meshack Mavuso). “If she had her way, Precious would be walking around Durban Gen hospital with a bun in the oven,” says Lihle. But Precious went behind Thabo’s back recently and ran tests that proved her suspicions: Thabo is infertile. “That doesn’t mean that she’s going to throw in the towel,” adds Lihle, whose character will get her objective.

Precious asks her engaged brotherin-law Sibusiso (Ntando Mncube) for a not-so-little favour. “She begs Sibusiso to spend an evening with her so that she can bear a Dlamini heir. They will pretend that Thabo is the father,” says Lihle, adding that Sibusiso is stunned and refuses right away. But Precious won’t accept no for answer. “Precious is a patient woman. She’ll push all the right buttons until Sibusiso agrees to impregnate her,” explains the actress.

KEEPING A LOW PROFILE

Precious’s unhealthy obsession with motherhood hasn’t come overnight. She had a fling with nurse Calvin (Bhekisizwe Mahlawe) in November last year that resulted in an unexpected pregnancy. “Precious wanted to keep the baby but was forced to have an abortion when Calvin threatened to expose their affair,” says Lihle. Since then, Precious has felt a void that she believes can only be filled by a baby. “She could easily reveal to Thabo that he is infertile and they adopt. But he is insecure and disclosing his condition would only widen the rift,” adds Lihle.

CHANGING HIS TUNE

Considering that Sibusiso is marrying medical intern Mbali (Nelisiwe Sibiya), who is currently fighting kidney failure, Precious realises that time is ticking. The reality is that if she doesn’t sleep with Sibusiso now, she never will. “So when Precious spots an anxious Sibusiso at the hospital, worrying about Mbali’s health, she takes advantage of his emotions,” explains Lihle. Precious offers Sibusiso a shoulder to cry on.

“In a moment of weakness, they start kissing and have sex,” adds Lihle, whose character is certain that her baby plan is a success, especially when she develops nausea and morning sickness.

But, of course, it’s easier said than done to keep sex about sex only, and Precious is soon going gaga for her potential babydaddy. Will her plan work, or will it blow up in her face?
