Connie’s got a boyfriend, but Hillside newcomer Braam might be winning her over.

-

Everyone loves a happy ending and it’s even better when a troubled character finds the love they didn’t know they needed. That’s hopefully on the cards for boutique boss Connie (Quinne Brown Huffman), whose relationships have been nothing short of atrocious in the last few years. So it’s a breath of fresh air when Braam (Pietie Beyers, Roelof Schoeman in Afrikaans drama miniseries Siende Blind, 2020) can’t stop smiling Connie’s way.

And Braam has a heart of gold too – the nice guy drove into The Laan recently when he rescued Ivy (Nazli George) following her car accident. “Ivy saw him as this angel,” says Pietie. “He later met her again at Beleef deli and she thanked Braam with a tasty meal.” It was at Beleef where Braam spotted his own angel: Connie. “His heart was beating wildly when he saw her. He immediately thought she was the woman for him,” reveals the actor.

SHE DESERVES BETTER

There’s a huge gap between Connie and Braam – their background. “Braam is a farmer from the Free State. He’s flat on the ground and always sees the good in other people,” says Pietie. But that’s not to say he’s naive. “He is also world-wise. His love life is just a secret, I think there was someone in his past who he lost, and he’s not really looking for love. But Connie catches his eye. She is charming, loving and it seems she has a passion for life – something that Braam also has. “

Initially, Braam is unaware of Connie’s past and her difficult relationship with her convicted prisoner boyfriend André (Marcus Muller). But Braam does a little research, playing around on social media and he finds out all about the disgraced lawyer. “Braam feels sorry for Connie, because she has all this luggage she carries around with her every day, and he hopes he can give her something better,” adds Pietie.

IS HE GOING TO CATCH HER EYE?

Braam goes out of his way to catch the eye of his love interest and prove that he is a good guy. “He is kind to her, perhaps too kind, and brings her wine and other fresh produce from his farm,” says Pietie. But his efforts go unappreciated, adds Quinne: “She doesn’t really notice that Braam is trying to charm her. She is completely blind because her mind is focussed on André. She thinks that Braam is cute, but that’s where it stops.”

Pietie is hoping for the best, revealing that “there is a scene where the two have an open conversation, where the seed is planted for a possible romance”, adding that “it won’t grow overnight, if this seedling takes root at all…”
