Sibling shocker
Zak is back in town and he’s still upsetting his mother by dating his half-sister Zinhle.
It was never Zak’s (Bohlokwa Mpiti) intention to return to Johannesburg after his biological mom Ziyanda (Linda Sokhulu) kicked him out without an explanation following their long overdue reunion late in 2020. “After hearing her voice on the radio, Zak catches the first bus to confront his record exec mom for abandoning him – first as an infant and again as an adult,” explains Bohlokwa.
But when Zak walks into Ziyanda’s office building this fortnight, his fears get the better of him. “He’s afraid that Ziyanda will reject him once more. He leaves in a panic,” says the actor. While Zak gathers the courage to face his mother, he rents an apartment above Kilowatt nightclub. With time to kill, he contacts his ex-love interest Zinhle (Kealeboga Masango) and talks her into giving him a second chance. “They are doomed though: Ziyanda will use every trick to keep them apart as Zak and Zinhle are siblings,” says Bohlokwa.
ZIYANDA’S SECRET
As much as Ziyanda wants to reveal to her family that she has a son, the truth will do irreparable damage. For starters, Ziyanda had a brief tryst with her brother-inlaw Khulekani (Mncedisi
Shabangu) when they were much younger, resulting in Zak. “She secretly gave Zak up for adoption, without telling Khulekani, because she would rather keep the peace than bond with her son,” says Bohlokwa.
In Ziyanda’s defence, she is scared that if her younger sister Nandi (Nompilo Gwala) – aka Khulekani’s wife and Zinhle’s mother – finds out about Zak, Nandi will cut ties with her. “Of course Ziyanda finds herself in a difficult position,” adds Bohlokwa. “Her failure to reveal that Zak and Zinhle are related only brings the pair closer. By the time they learn that they’re related, they would’ve long crossed the line.”
PREVENTING A ROMANCE
While hanging out, Zak and Zinhle share their first kiss. “Zak is drawn to her. All he’s ever wanted is acceptance, and Zinhle truly cares about him,” says Bohlokwa. It’s safe to say that it’s going to break the young lovers if they learn that they’re siblings. But not if Ziyanda can help it. “When Ziyanda discovers that Zak and Zinhle are dating, she will try to pay off Zak to leave again, which won’t work as he’s already sold on the idea of starting a life with Zinhle in Johannesburg,” explains the actor. To stop the pair from incest, Ziyanda has no option but to tell them. That’s a chat we can’t wait to hear…
