Season 1 M-Net (*101) 21:30 Drama

Rebecca Breeds wasn’t nervous about taking over Jodie Foster’s role as FBI Special Agent Clarice Starling from iconic thriller film The Silence Of The Lambs (1993). But she was uneasy about the character’s accent for the new sequel series Clarice. “What they did with the film was incredible. But we’re telling a different story with our show. The similarities with my Clarice and Jodie’s Clarice is how they look and sound. Psychologically, they’re very different people,” says Rebecca.

1 The 33-year-old Australian worked on her character’s West Virginia accent for a month before auditioning. “The hardest to get right was cadence, the speed. It’s slow,” says Rebecca.

2 She married actor Luke Mitchell in 2013 after meeting on the set of Aussie soapie Home And Away (1988-now) – she played Ruby and he played Romeo. She moved to the US in 2013 after being cast in single-season sitcom We Are Men (2013) as Abby Russo.

3 She worked with her Clarice co-star Kal Penn (Gil in We Are Men and FBI Agent Shaan in Clarice).

4 Rebecca and Jodie are the same height – 1.6m.

5 To lift the mood on set, Rebecca walks around singing, saying that “I grew up singing at school, in choir and at home. I’m not a pop star, but singing makes me happy.”

6 She got into trouble for touching the fake bodies on Clarice, saying, “They’re so real! I had to touch.”
