Good ol’ Uncle Gords

Don’t mistake Gordon Price for someone who’s happy flitting around the edges – he’s more in touch than anyone realises.

-

There’s something interesting about Gordon Price (Neil McCarthy, one of the original hosts of lifestyle show Top Billing, 1992-2019) but you just can’t put your finger on it. And it’s a mystery for Neil, who portrays him, too, revealing that “we are learning about Gordon together (Neil and the viewers). As Legacy progresses, we discover more of his personality and who he is – not just to the family, but in the boardroom too.”

While we’ve seen that Gordon is an astute businessman in the office, of late he has taken on more of the friendly uncle vibe, especially with Petra (Trix Vivier), who exposed her creepy boss Mike (Russel Savadier) recently for sexually harassing her. “He is like a godfather uncle to his nieces and he gives them advice and that sort of thing. I think he knows when people need help and with Petra, it’s more reassurance,” explains Neil, who is one of Legacy’s directors too.

IN THE KNOW

While Gordon’s murdered brother Sebastian (Deon Lotz) was the brains at Legacy Investments, the flashier Gordon was his equal when it came to making important decisions, says Neil. “We don’t right now know exactly what Gordon’s position is – he isn’t CEO, that’s his sisterin-law Dineo (Kgomotso Christopher). But he’s just beneath her in the pecking order and he has as much clout as her when it comes to business.”

Not for the first time, Gordon is a sounding board for Dineo’s personal life – and he knows what she needs before she knocks on his door. “Gordon listens. He understands people and he understands emotions. He has always had a good relationship with Dineo. He put his arm around her when she married Seb (his brother) and Seb divorced Gordon’s other bestie Angelique (Michelle Botes). He’s always had an opendoor policy with Dineo,” says Neil, whose character is aware of his widow sister-in-law’s affair with their colleague Msizi (Siyabonga Thwala) since her court case at the end of April, which would be an HR problem if anyone else knew.

“Gordon has led this fancy colourful life. We’re learning about his relationships… I’d love it if one of his exes just showed up at his door,” explains Neil. “Right now, I think he’s happy sitting in the shadows, sipping cocktails and enjoying all this entertaining drama.”
