Brains vs brawn

Rickus and Marko fight for the right to holiday with Thomas.

-

When two people can’t agree on things, it’s always good to call in a moderator. Or in typical Hillside fashion, declare an armwrestling war! It’s time to place your bets as Marko (Francois Lensley) and Rickus (André Lotter) put their muscles where their mouths are in a battle for some quality time with young Thomas (Vian Singleton).

The guys adore Thomas and they’re eager to spend a boys-only vacation with him later this year. “They made a promise to take care of Esti’s (Reandi Grey, Liz on Legacy, 2020-now, see p29) son Thomas (while she’s in a coma offscreen). I think that they both eventually want kids, so it’s a paternal need to have a father-son relationship with him,” explains André. But following discussions, it’s clear that the men won’t agree on who’ll be taking Thomas.

IT’S WAR

The most logical solution? Ask Thomas what he wants. But André says that the teen is ironically the last thing on their minds. “They’re so caught up in this challenge that they don’t even think of what Thomas wants.” And so, thanks to Rickus’s quick thinking, a fairly simple problem snowballs into an all-out war.

In the one corner, we have Marko promising a down-to-earth adventure camping trip, while Rickus is opting for a more high-end getaway to the US.

“He plans on showing Thomas what he experienced while playing tennis overseas and also taking Thomas to Disneyland and celebrating a white Christmas,” reveals André. But first, the men have to prove themselves (and their strength) in a showdown at Stasie Ses.

TRAIN, SLAY

With almost every Hillsider buzzing, we’ll soon see a town divided as one half declares themselves Team Marko, and the other Team Rickus. It’s a battle between brains and brawn, and Rickus is very much aware that Marko has the upper hand (so to speak) when it comes to power. After some hesitation, André says his character reluctantly agrees to undergo basic training and his dad Chris (David Rees) is happy to help. “Chris says it requires technique, which Chris has plenty of as he was pals with a great arm wrestler in his younger years.”

Meanwhile, Marko “Geen Genade” Greyling believes he will win with ease. But Fikani (Nicholas

Nkuna) warns Marko not to underestimate Rickus, but whether Marko will listen remains to be seen. What viewers can look forward to is an unforgettable day of fun, drama and a jaw-dropping twist.
