BLOOD TRUTH

DNA test exposes Pretty’s real dad!

-

Describing the last three months as rough for the Seakamelas is a gross understatement. We saw Kwaito (Clement Maosa) come to terms with his paternal roots, while his sister Pretty (Lerato Marabe) started grappling with her own daddy issues. All this while their mom MaNtuli (Dieketseng Mnisi) desperately tried to keep her family together. “It has been a rollercoaster,” says Clement. “Kwaito went on a mission to find his father, only to learn that he had passed away the year before.” Left with more questions, Kwaito was on the verge of taking a DNA test to make sense of his life. But, as Clement says, “Deep inside he knew that he is indeed a Seakamela” and he opted out of the DNA test.

BOOK OF LIFE

Kwaito now sets his sights on the future and vows to finish writing the book his dad started. “Those manuscripts that he found in March in an old suitcase are the only thing Kwaito has of his father. Kwaito can once again pursue his passion as a writer and, at the same time, tell the world about who his father was,” says Clement.

But his father’s name isn’t the only thing motivating Kwaito. There’s also good money, should the book get published. And more money brings Kwaito that much closer to finally giving his mom what she’s always desired – her dream home. Overall, Kwaito’s life is on track. Sadly, Pretty isn’t as lucky…

While Kwaito connects with his dad’s heritage, Pretty can’t shake the feeling that she isn’t a true Seakamela. “She felt no sense of acceptance or love from Mr Seakamela,” reveals Lerato. Despite a childhood DNA test allegedly confirming her parentage, Lerato says “something in her spirit just didn’t feel right”. It’s this nagging feeling that pushes Pretty to question everything. “Every child wants to be sure about their father’s lineage. It helps one realise why they are the way they are.”

HAVE YOU HEARD?

Unable to turn to MaNtuli, Pretty has her own DNA test done. Lerato says it is more “the looming question of why those tests had to be done years ago. Families don’t just go around doing DNA tests unless there is a reason.” But before Pretty can have the covert DNA test, a rumour shakes her to her core. “Her beau Kat (Patrick Seleka) lets the cat out of the bag: Mr Nkadimeng, who died years ago offscreen, was her biological father!” Lerato exclaims. Understandably, this revelation (whether true or not) understandably will send shockwaves over an already shaky family and, as Clement warns, “They’ll never be the same.”
