Mayim Bialik is famous for two roles: the title character in teen comedy series Blossom (1991-1995) and neuroscientist Amy Farrah Fowler in comedy series The Big Bang Theory (2007-2019). The 45year-old is moving on but she’s staying in comedy as Kat in her new series Call Me Kat (2021-now). “I think that I’ve got my comedy timing just about right after doing it for 30-something years,” says Mayim. “My new co-stars aren’t really complaining, unless we don’t feed them on time,” referring to the cats she’s now sharing scenes with.
Like her Big Bang Theory character 1 Amy, Mayim is a neuroscientist and earned her PHD from UCLA in 2007. “It was difficult. I didn’t have the grades to get into medical school, so I had to go the ‘normal’ varsity way,” she says. She dropped her plans to be a research 2 professor after graduating because she wanted to spend time with her sons Miles (16) and Frederick (13) – she divorced their non-celebrity father Michael Stone in 2008 after five years of marriage. Mayim has been vegan since her 3 teens and owned vegan restaurant Bodhi Bowl in LA from 2017 until she closed it in 2020 due to the COVID-19 lockdown restrictions. 4 She’s known her Big Bang Theory co-star Johnny Galecki (Leonard) since she was 14. “He cameoed on Blossom (as Jason in 1991) and he was actually my first kiss on TV. I still tease him,” says Mayim. And while she doesn’t play the 5 harp like Amy, Mayim does play the piano, guitar and trumpet.
