Secret lover is a brother
Fikile’s mom leaves a wake of destruction with her revelation.
All that Fikile (Phindile Gwala) has ever wanted was to marry Nkululeko (Nkanyiso Mchunu), have his babies, make money while running Maluju Oil and live happily ever after as the Bhengu power couple. Her dreams are about to come true as her bae is getting ready to propose at the surprise birthday party that he planned and Fikile has a niggly feeling that she might be pregnant.
Fikile’s dreams shatter though when she sees her mom Nompi (Zandi Nhlapo) – whom she hasn’t seen or spoken to in eight years – at the party. “They have a very acrimonious and emotionless relationship,” explains Zandi. “They have never gotten along because Nompi was very hard and cruel to Fikile. They haven’t seen each other in a long time, and Nompi has never bothered to contact her daughter.”
And the visit will be all but pleasant.
MOTHER-DAUGHTER DRAMA
Fikile’s rage almost boils over when she is confronted by her mom. “Nompi was shocked but very curious when she got the invite to be part of her daughter’s surprise party,” says Zandi. “Curious in wanting to see how her daughter has grown, and she also wants to use this opportunity to mend their relationship and perhaps start on a clean slate.”
Even though Nompi may have come with good intentions and good vibes, things change when she meets Nkululeko – she has a very strange reaction that she can’t immediately explain as she needs to confirm details. And it’s not just a matter of not liking him…
After a short investigation, Nompi tells Fikile that she needs to break up with Nkululeko. “Nompi had an affair with Nkululeko’s Father Zimele (Tony Kgoroge). She’s always known that Zimele was Fikile’s dad but didn’t do anything about it as Zimele was married, so Nompi raised Fikile as though she was her husband’s child,” explains the actress. “It was only when Fikile wanted to go to varsity that Nompi told Zimele that he had a daughter and he secretly paid.”
MEDDLING MOM
With Fikile not listening, Nompi turns to Nkululeko. “It is understandable that Fikile would choose not to believe what Nompi is saying because she is in love. Fikile is angry at Nompi because she is actually ruining everything,” says Zandi. Things go from bad to worse though. Fikile falls ill, so Nkululeko takes her to her doctor and steals some of Fikile’s DNA to get tested. While it turns out that Fikile isn’t pregnant and has endometriosis, ruining her baby dreams, she may lose the other half of her dream depending on the DNA results…

IN THIS ISSUE
Fikile isn’t excited to see her mother at her surprise party, the church elders want Khanyo to conduct the funeral service for Thokozile and not her father Phakade, and Lulu decides to buy more pills. Fikile opens up to Nkululeko about her childhood for the first time, and Khanyo is being stalked by Thokozile’s ghost, leading Nkululeko to believe that his mother was murdered. Nkululeko wants Khanyo to send Thoko a message, KaMadonsela advises her daughter to keep her mouth shut, and
Gogo gives Lulu her support in her sex change.
The police are back to question the Bhengu family about Thokozile, and Phakade starts to suspect that his wife and daughter know a lot more than they’re letting on. The staff at Emsamo are told that they could be losing their jobs, and Buhle crashes Fikile’s car. Nkululeko is looking for answers about his mother’s death and that scares KaMadonsela and Khanyo, Buhle starts making plans to save Emsamo by buying it, and Fikile’s mom tells her something shocking. Later, the Emsamo staff are elated to see who bought the bistro.
