Opening up THE D WORD

Aggie is left floored by Vince’s request to consider an open marriage – is this the end for the Meintjies couple?

-

When Vince (Jacques Blignaut) left for Canada in March this year to pursue a career as a cooking show host, it was an emotional goodbye. Few people were more tearyeyed than his beloved wife Aggie (Mimi Mahlasela). At first, things seemed to be going alright. But in recent months, cracks in their marriage appeared – and Vince is clearly ready to move on.

WHAT THE?

“It’s been a challenging few months,” explains Mimi of the long-distance relationship. “It’s definitely brought about some uncertainty.” And while Aggie’s been fighting tooth and nail to keep their barely three-year-old union intact, it became clear that Vince was no longer as committed by suggesting an open marriage. “His reasoning is that he needs affection and physical attention. But this just leaves Aggie hurt and utterly heartbroken.”

Unsure of her thoughts, Aggie turns to Connie (Quinne Brown), Vanessa (Ingrid Paulus) and Bonita (Hildegardt Whites). Naturally, they’re horrified that Vince had the gall to ask this, but like Aggie, they’re also unsure how to handle this situation. “They’re at a loss for words.” says Mimi.

Despite Vince’s absurd request, we’ll see a visibly distraught Aggie struggle to let go of her man. Still hopelessly in love, Aggie isn’t keen on calling it quits. There even comes a point where Aggie, for a short time, considers giving Vince what he wants. “Only in the hopes of saving her marriage and because she loves Vince,” adds Mimi. When asked about Vince’s love, Mimi is adamant he still has feelings for her. “I think he’s just confused,” the actress explains.

If Vince is confused, then Aggie is completely flummoxed. Which is why she eventually decides to pay Hillside lawyer André (Marcus

Muller) a quick visit.

What exactly the two discuss remains a mystery, but we’ve been assured that Aggie isn’t going to be jumping onto the divorce wagon just yet.

GOODBYE FOR GOOD?

We asked if this is the last we’ll hear of Vince and were told that while we won’t see him again in this season, nothing has been finalised for the upcoming 23rd season. Could Aggie get her man back in 2022? Only time will tell. But for now, Jacques is playing Martin van Wyk in soapie The Estate on SABC3 (see more on p36).
