The Great Australian Cookbook

-

Season 1 Home Channel (*176) 18:00 Lifestyle Food is the question and the answer.

It’s comforting and it brings people together, no matter the background or culture. That’s why cooking show The Great Australian Cookbook has decided to focus not only on the food but also the cooks and their kitchens in which they prepare their delightful dishes, starting with Aussie food icon and cookbook author Maggie Beer, who’s been cooking for more than 50 years.

Filmed in the kitchens and homes of 22 different Australian chefs, the show’s main focus is the food, but sprinkled in between the mouthwatering dishes are cutbacks to the “host’s” family lifestyles, how food is implemented in their daily lives, and then, of course, teaching viewers how to make the dishes. It’s like getting to see legendary painter Pablo Picasso create a masterpiece in his own studio. Included in the line-up of foodies is Chinese cuisine expert Gilbert Lau, Darren Robertson of the famed Three Blue Ducks restaurants, host of reality show The Great Australian Bake Off Matt Moran, catering queen Simmone Logue and more.

Back to Maggie, her episode sees her prepare her famous chocolate pear almond tart that’s as easy as pie to make. And that simplicity is one of Maggie’s core food philosophies. “My food theory will always remain to cook from the heart, to make the most of each and every ingredient that you use, and to make the very finest dishes and meals that’s accessible to everyone, regardless of their cooking skills or the time restrictions,” says Maggie.
