Prepare for the ride of your life in Odd Taxi.
Name: Kashief Achmat.
Position: scheduler who always forgets to take a jacket when going out.
I am watching: anime series
Odd Taxi season 1 on streaming service Crunchyroll.
My take on this show: at first glance, Odd Taxi might come across as a cute child’s show set in the world of animal/ humans, where walrus Odokawa (voiced by Natsuki Hanae) earns a living as a taxi driver with a photographic memory. But it’s more like cult hit crime movie Pulp Fiction but with cute animals. There’s a mix of several storylines from the unique passengers Odokawa interacts with and the show explores how they’re all connected.
My favourite moment so far:
I really enjoyed the storyline for Hajime Tanaka (voiced by Souma Saitou), the cat-like gaming creature. It takes you into his background and how he goes from being a kid struggling with popularity, to a man who’s completely unhinged. Why I am watching it now:
I recently got streaming service Crunchyroll and it was one of the shows recommended, not to mention that the show has been talked about for a good long while among anime fans. Familiar faces: If you are a bit of an anime buff and your ear is good, you’ll notice that Natsuki Hanae, who voices Odokwawa, also voices Tanjirou Kamado from supernatural anime series Kimetsu no Yaiba.
Name: Tumi Kunene.
Position: a senior designer who’s trying to get into a healthy routine but failing dismally.
I am watching: 13-part Mzansi Magic (*161) drama series Nqobile, now on DStv Catch Up.
My take on this show: this really touched me on my studio! Nqobile (Nunu Khulamo) is a submissive wife, physically and emotionally abused by her rich husband Smino Nkosi (Kagiso Modupe), loathed by her momin-law Sarah (Nomsa Nene), but cherished by her father-inlaw, George “Cupcake” Nkosi (George Hlatshwayo). When Smino makes a fool of himself at a presentation, Nqobile saves the day with a new concept for the family’s company. After Cupcake’s death, she takes over as CEO – against direct orders. My favourite moment so far: When Nqobile finally learns how to defend herself with the help of Gugu, the family security guard (Abdul Khoza).
Why I am watching it now: we did a short snippet on it and I knew I should watch the show. It has not disappointed so far. Familiar faces: Lillian Dube plays the Black Widow – a granny with an eye patch who goes after every abusive man because she lost her eye through her own domestic violence.
