Bone of contention
Nkosi is backed into a corner when Mampho demands to win the interns’ latest competition or else…
One of the many perks of being an intern at fashion empire House Of Zwide is that there’s always an exciting project. If the interns aren’t designing garments for A-list stars for red-carpet events, they’re styling outfits for covers of glossy magazines – and this fortnight isn’t any different.
After his meeting with the editor of the fictional Muse Magazine, House Of Zwide’s exec Nkosi Zwide (Wanda Zuma) presents the interns with a challenge: “To pitch ideas for an editorial in Muse, and the intern with the most innovative concept wins a once-in-a-lifetime chance to put together looks for the publication’s next photoshoot,” reveals Wanda.
It’s a big deal for the interns and they all have their eyes on the prize, some more than others, like Mampho (Gaisang Noge) who doesn’t waste time in blackmailing Nkosi. “Mampho hits Nkosi with an ultimatum: She wants to win… or she’ll tell Nkosi’s girlfriend Shoki (Shalate Sikhabi) about their one-night fling in November. Nkosi caves to save his romance with Shoki,” reveals Wanda.
WINNER BY DEFAULT
The day arrives for the interns to pitch their ideas to Nkosi and head designer
Lazarus (Khaya Dladla), and
Nkosi’s head is all over the place. “He knows that he should do the right thing by standing up to Mampho, but his fear gets the better of him,” says Wanda. And while it’s clear that Ona (Nefisa Mkhabela) is the frontrunner, Nkosi shocks his co-judge Lazarus when he announces Mampho as the winner. “For a moment Nkosi is about to declare Ona as the winner, but when he looks up, Mampho looks at him with eyes of manipulation. In a panic, Nkosi calls out Mampho’s name. However, he wants to make things right and put Mampho in her place for her criminal machinations.”
WHAT A GIRL WANTS
It isn’t like Nkosi to let people walk all over him and he contemplates revoking Mampho’s prize, but things don’t go as Nkosi expects. “Mampho raises the stakes and she tells Nkosi that if he takes back the prize, she’ll tell the blogs, tabloid newspapers and anyone who’s willing to listen about their one-night stand. So Shoki will be the least of Nkosi’s worries,” warns Wanda. And when Mampho makes more requests, Nkosi is forced to come clean about her plot to his stepmom Faith (Winnie Ntshaba), who deals with Mampho once and for all. With Faith in on the secret, it’s only a matter of time until Shoki also finds out too – and her relationship with Nkosi may not survive this betrayal.
