Consenting to an arranged marriage is one thing. But agreeing to tie the knot with a total stranger, who you meet for the first time at the altar dressed in your wedding attire, is a whole different story. And that’s the premise of hit reality series Married At First Sight. Singles are paired together by relationship experts based on their requirements and compatibility. The couples are then introduced to each other at their wedding. They then move in together for three months to test if they can weather the storm. At the end of the experiment, the couples decide if they want to remain together or get a divorce. While some pairs opt to go their separate ways, despite help from experts, some duos have found their soulmates on the show. Here are two of the 12 success stories from the past 12 seasons…
1 Biomedical technician Keith Dewar (31) and estate agent Kristine Killingsworth (31) experienced a slow start to their marriage on the show.
But once the walls came down, they were inseparable. The pair have settled into their new house in Philadelphia, and they’re planning to expand their family “as soon as this pandemic is over,” says Keith.
2 Doug Hehner (38) and Jamie Otis (35) wed in season 1. He’s a software salesman and she’s a nurse and jewellery designer who was in season 16 of dating reality show The Bachelor. While Jamie admits that there wasn’t instant chemistry, they grew to love each other while filming. “I assumed it would never work out,” says Jamie about the social experiment before adding, “I’m happy that I was openminded.” They have two kids now.
