With her sleuthing firm thriving, PRturned-private-investigator Agatha Raisin (Ashley Jensen) is eager to take a vacation in season 4 of British comedy-drama series Agatha Raisin, which starts with a Christmas special. As Agatha is about to close her business for Christmas though, she gets a last-minute call to solve a murder case and she promptly agrees, much to her friend and partner Roy Silver’s (Mathew Horne) disapproval.
“It’s a Christmas mystery in an English country manor. How could I possibly refuse?” says Agatha. While she catches the culprits behind the murder, Agatha’s investigation isn’t without hurdles and hilarious moments, reveals Ashley. “Season 4 is pure escapism. It is daft, silly and something that the whole family can watch together.
The first episode has that beautiful twinkly Christmas warmth and I read somewhere that people call the show, ‘a cosy crime drama’, which I like,” adds the actress.
Agatha Raisin is based on a mystery novel series of the same name by Scottish writer MC Beaton that was published between 1992 and 2014. More than following Agatha as she grows confident as a PI, season 4 explores her friendships with her colleagues Roy, Toni (Jodie Tyack) and Bill (Matt McCooey), especially when Agatha is falsely accused of and arrested for murder in episode 2. Agatha works with Roy, Toni and Bill to have her charges cleared. “This circle of friends always supports each other. They bring out the best in each other and viewers will get to see that throughout the series,” adds Ashley.
