Taking a break

Soka and Ona decide to take time apart after another fight.

-

After months of job hunting, accounting graduate Soka (Linda Nxumalo) was recently hired at a local gangster’s start-up company. “Waking up in the morning to go to the office is a huge confidence boost for Soka. For some time, he was defeated following countless rejection letters from various accounting firms and now there’s a pep in his step. He is genuinely happy,” explains Linda.

With a new outlook on life, Soka is looking to make a few changes and that begins with his relationship with his girlfriend Ona (Nefisa Mkhabela). “When Soka and Ona started dating late last year, they agreed that they’d wait until she was ready to have sex, but this fortnight, Soka implies that they should take their romance to the next level,” explains Linda. Ona is taken aback by Soka’s suggestion and his recent transformation. “Lately, Soka has an ego. It’s as if he is someone new and Ona notices the shift in his character and she questions his intentions, which soon leads to the demise of their relationship,” adds the actor.

UNDER PRESSURE

Soka invites Ona to a fancy dinner and during their meal, he suggests that they book into a hotel to have sex. “Ona is taken aback by Soka proposal but because she loves him, she agrees and they set a date for their first time,” says Linda. As the big day approaches, Ona is panicked and she eventually goes back on her decision. “On the proposed evening, Ona stands up Soka and he is annoyed,” adds the actor. The young couple are simply no longer on the same page. “Ona and Soka are each other’s first loves, and they thought that they would always be together, but they are gradually drifting apart and it’s glaringly obvious that they’re over,” adds Linda.

IT’S OVER… FOR NOW

After the disappointing evening, the cracks in Ona and Soka’s relationships widen. They constantly fight, and Ona doesn’t trust Soka. “He is emotionally distant with Ona. It’s unlike Soka,” says Linda, whose character is one foot out of his relationship. To make matters easy, Ona asks Soka for space. “She believes that separating could make them step back and realise how much they love each other, but the break gives Soka ideas and he considers ending their relationship so that he can date other women.” With Soka and Ona on opposite ends, it’s impossible that they’ll survive this hurdle…
