A ticking bomb

Eunice’s party lifestyle catches up to her as she runs out of money and can’t pay her way out of trouble…

-

It’s no secret that former physiologist Eunice’s (Oratile Maitisa) life is on a path of destruction. She inherited R1.7 million from her murdered friend Fanie’s (Gift Mokampanyane) trust in April, and she ran about splurging on everything from designer clothes to expensive dinners. Now though, Eunice spends her money on designer drugs. “Eunice became a millionaire overnight and she thinks that she’s untouchable. While partying with her new friends, she takes drugs and not long after, she becomes addicted,” explains Oratile.

What’s more worrying about Eunice’s situation is that she was recently fired from her job – after she pulled one too many disappearing acts. So all she does now is party and take drugs, which soon takes a toll on her finances. “Things get out of hand for Eunice this fortnight and she loses the little that’s left of her money,” warns Oratile.

LOSING HER GRIP

Eunice pushed her loved ones away when she became an instant millionaire, and with no one watching over her, she continues her self-destructive behaviour. “When left to her own devices, Eunice shuts the world out and she parties more,” explains Oratile.

Concerned, Eunice’s family arrive at her doorstep to check on her after she misses the phonecalls. “When her parents probe her about her recent conduct, of course Eunice lies to her family and makes up excuses about losing her job,” adds the actress. A part of Eunice is in denial about her drug addiction and her reckless partying, and the other half believes that she still has control over her life. “The addiction has destroyed Eunice’s job and relationships, which she valued and protected. She needs to snap back to reality.”

CRASHING & BURNING

And it gets worse. It doesn’t take long for Eunice to get involved in a car crash. While Oratile reveals that her character doesn’t get injured, the incident is a taste of what’s to come in Eunice’s life. “Because Eunice isn’t injured, she hides the accident from her family. They only find out about the crash much later, after she lands in the hospital for another serious case,” adds the actress. “The second time that Eunice is in hospital will be sinister, and by then, she’ll be out of money and without a plan to restore everything she’s destroyed,” warns Oratile. It’s not looking good at all for “poor” Eunice…
