Private Eyes
Season 3 Universal TV (*117) 20:00 & 20:50 Drama
Fun drama action series Private Eyes is based on the books of the same name by author GB Joyce, but there are some creative licences being employed by lead stars Cindy Sampson (as private investigator Angie Everett) and Jason Priestley (as hockey star-turned-sleuth Matt). “We get to change things with the writers,” says Cindy. “We know our characters, so we understand how they think, what they’ll do in certain situations. And it’s fun getting them into positions where they’re not sure of themselves…”
Things looked grim at the end of season 2 with Angie behind bars after she was conned into stealing a hard-drive full of sensitive government intel. “It’s up to Matt and their assistant Zoe (Sam
Wan, Sera in drama series Leslieville) to prove
Angie’s innocence,” explains Angie. But prison is also where the sleuth team get a puzzling new case –
Angie meets Loretta (Jann
Arden, Jane in comedy show Workin’ Moms), an intimidating inmate who she later helps get legal representation. “Angie helps to free Loretta and find her daughter. She wants to prove to Loretta that there are good people who want to help her,” says Cindy. “It’s tough for Angie to be in prison but she sees it as a learning curve – as a pro PI, she only knows one side of the coin. To understand why criminals go on the run and do what they do, it’s not easy to always be in their shoes. Now Angie knows,” adds the actress.
The season was filmed in 2018 and Cindy says that “we were in our third run together, so everyone got on well. It was easy to do any last-minute rewrites or adjust our scenes because there weren’t any COVID-19 restrictions on set.”
