“He’s a hitter!” says Christian Kane of his character Eliot Spencer in action thriller series Leverage: Redemption. “He’s part of this crew who rob the rich to feed the poor. Eliot is the guy who drops the bombshell during their con act.
He’s the one who makes sure that no harm comes to his teammates,” says the 49-year-old. “It was a lot of fun coming back for this spin-off series. We had a lot of fun doing the original Leverage in 2008, so for the entire group of actors and producers to come back was great. It was like slipping into comfy slippers.” But did you know that Christian almost didn’t take the role?
“When I got the script in 2006, I’d 1 got this instant dislike of Eliot. He wasn’t cool at all. I actually threw the script away,” says Christian. “But when I heard that executive producer Dean Devlin (from sci-fi movie Independence Day) wanted me for the part, I quickly got the script out the trash.”
Eliot was originally going to wear 2 wire-rimmed glasses, drink tea and enjoy shooting people. “I wasn’t really a fan of the tea part. I drink coffee. But we (Christian and Dean) reached a compromise – Eliot is still hard,” says the star. Christian is a musician in his spare 3 time and not only plays guitar, he’s the frontman for his country-southern rockband Kane. They haven’t released any original music to date. His acting best friend 4 is David Boreanaz (Jason in army series SEAL Team). They worked on ’90s fantasy series Angel (Christian as Lindsey, David as Angel) and Christian says that “we barbecue every week. We’re like brothers!”
