Doccie series Ghislaine: Partner In Crime investigates convicted sex offender and trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell and her fall from socialite grace. While she’s awaiting sentencing, the man who dragged her into the world of sex-trafficking and soliciting underage girls to work as high-class escorts – disgraced financial genius Jeffrey Epstein – has got off “lightly”. He allegedly killed himself in 2019 while awaiting trial.
“He took the easy way out and he has left Ghislaine to suffer in prison,” says a former friend of Ghislaine. “She grew up in an aristocratic, well-to-do and wealthy British family. How she got mixed up with this monster (Jeffrey) is anyone’s guess.” As explored, Ghislaine wasn’t just a publicist, she was a socialite who rubbed shoulders with society’s elite in the US and the UK. And some of those famous faces are allegedly to have used her and Jeffrey’s “service” – like former US President Bill Clinton and Britain’s Prince Andrew, who has lost the majority of his titles due to the exposure he’s gotten from the scandal. Ghislaine meanwhile has remained quiet on the other celebrity clients.
“It’s quite extraordinary when you think about it. She was born in Britain and has made a successful career. Then she does this,” says the source, adding that “it doesn’t fit her personality to have been involved in crime, let alone something this ghastly”. The victims exposed Ghislaine and Jeffrey, revealing how they’d been snuck around the world on private planes and yachts, with the lives left in ruin.
