Kim’s Convenience

Season 4 SABC3 (*193) 18:30 Comedy

-

Love triangles are a plot piece best used in soapies like Days Of Our Lives and The Bold & The Beautiful, but it’s also perfectly at home in a comedy series like Kim’s Convenience. And for Janet (Andrea Bang), it’s giving her grey hairs in the new season 4 tonight. “She’s going to get herself into a little bit of trouble and it’s not really all her fault,” admits the 32-year-old actress. “She still has feelings for her ex-boyfriend Raj (Ishan Davé, Frederick in cop series Hudson & Rex) but she also wants to move on with Nathan (Benjamin Sutherland, Andrew in Hudson & Rex). And that’s where the problem comes…

Andrea’s character might have those lingering feelings of all the good times she had with Raj, but she’s excited about things with Nathan. “They’re in the same yoga class, he’s actually her instructor and there’s chemistry. It’s more physical than anything substantial,” admits the actress. But there are two things that Janet doesn’t know: Raj called off his wedding at the altar at the end of season 3 because he’s madly in love with Janet still, and her big brother Jung (Simu Liu, ShangChi in Marvel movie Shang-Chi) has an instant disliking of Nathan. “Jung is very protective of Janet. He sees right through Nathan’s facade and he knows that he’s not a nice guy,” says Simu. “It’s important for Jung to protect Janet this season because they’re becoming best friends again. Jung may not like Raj, but he’s a lot better than this Nathan guy.”

As for where Janet ends up, Andrea is sure that “she’s going to use her head. Janet loves the idea of being in love and she wants to be loved. But she’s going to have to make a decision about who to be with.”
