There is nothing that gets us more excited than a juicy miniseries based on a real-life story full of intrigue, scandal and above all – murder. That’s the premise behind the eight-part series The Staircase starring Academy Award winner Colin Firth (Archibald Craven in the film The Secret Garden) and
Toni Collette (Laura Oliver in the drama series Pieces Of Her).
Colin plays Michael Peterson, a crime novelist who is accused of murdering his wife Kathleen (Toni) in 2001 after she’s found dead in a pool of blood at the bottom of their staircase. The case soon makes international headlines that prompts a French documentary filmmaker to head to the United States to film Michael’s trial and get full access to his life beyond the courtroom. According to Colin, the thriller element of whodunit is in this series. “But I think it has far more to do with a study of a family and what lengths you will go to protect them and your way of life. As I read the script, I felt this great complicated relationships between family members and that leapt off the page for me.”
