SAVING PRIVATE RYAN (1998)
Who: Tom Hanks (Forrest in drama movie Forrest Gump, 1994), Vin Diesel (Dom in the Fast & Furious movies, 2001) and Paul Giamatti (Chuck Rhoades in drama series Billions, season 1 is on Showmax). What: World War II action and drama at its best. A team of US soldiers disobey orders and force their way across enemy lines to rescue the body of Private Ryan, a fallen soldier who the squad refuse to leave behind. Why: Two words – Steven Spielberg. One of the greatest director ever has worked wonders with incredibly talented actors, amazing special effects and an epic tale that isn’t just about war.
It’s about brotherhood, friendship and overcoming the toughest of obstacles in one’s path. It took home five Oscars, including Best Director.
Did you know? Tom Sizemore (Horvath in the movie) was drug tested daily. Steven Spielberg threatened to fire him if a single test returned positive – Tom kept his role and used it as rehab.
